The Pursuit Of Happiness

Greetings to all, welcome to this blessed Friday. Let us remember that God's promises still apply to each of us, and thank God for getting us to the end of another week. May our weekend be a happy one. Amen

Speaking of happiness, most of us deep down want to be happy. Our number one priority in life is to be satisfied!

As Christians, we prefer to use the word Blessed, which according to Holman study bible, is a Hebrew word ('ashrey) that expresses happiness, joy, and satisfaction in one's state or circumstances.

For Christians and sinners alike, the problem with happiness is we are continually seeking it in all the wrong places and things.

And, although technology has made our world more modern and safer, we, with all of today's modern trappings, seem to have more significant problems than those before us. There appears to be much more stress, anxiety, depression, and despair.

We've even created a whole new short cut language call Emojis.

While emojis are fun and a quick way for us to express our emotions and feelings with each other, they don't provide us with a deep or meaningful way of communicating. They can leave our souls feeling empty and alone—and searching for the next app to make us happy.

Psalm 1:1-3 (AMP)

1 BLESSED (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans, and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.

2 But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.

3 And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither, and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].

Just because the word tells us, "they prosper in all they do," that does not mean that any of us will not experience disappointments or difficulties in our lives. Nor does it guarantee any of us health, wealth, and happiness.

Lesson: Happiness is possible when we apply God's wisdom. The fruit (results or by-products) we bear will be good and receive God's approval.

Just as a tree soaks up water and bears delicious fruit, we also are to soak up God's Word, producing actions and attitudes that honor God.

If we're going to achieve happiness worth having, we must have God's Word in our hearts.

As long as we keep looking for happiness in our outward circumstances, we will never find it.

The only place to find real, lasting happiness is in a relationship with God.
