The Peace Jesus Brings

Greetings to all, on this 3rd Sunday of Advent, as we worship and acknowledge the theme of peace, I pray that our minds, bodies, and souls feel peaceful. Amen

We are living during dangerous and unsteady times when many are anxious, overwhelmed, and afraid. We are all living and longing for peace. Peace in our homes, on our jobs, and peace in the world.

We are people waiting and longing for the peace that only Jesus brings.

Apart from God, the real peace we all long for will be impossible to achieve. So, God sent His on Jesus!

Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)

6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

We often misunderstand what peace is. That peace that comes with the birth of Jesus is not about our feelings. The peace that Jesus brings is based on Shalom, the ancient Hebrew word, which means unity and wholeness. This unity and wholeness are with God and all of humanity.

Ephesians 2:14-18 (NLT2)

14 For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us.

15 He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups.

16 Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death.

17 He brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were far away from him, and peace to the Jews who were near.

18 Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.

Lesson: Because Jesus is our peace, we don't need to be anxious about anything.

We can have perfect peace in our lives when we depend on God and stop trying to do everything ourselves.
