Greetings to all, let us thank God for waking us up this Tuesday morning, another day to experience His presence and His loving care. May He give us the patience today to wait as He continues to make a way when we can't see away. Amen
Two Bible stories came to mind as I pondered my thoughts for today's message. Both stories involve hearing God's voice, one with the older man, Moses, and the other with the younger lad Samuel.
Today's focus will be on Moses's first seeing God in the burning bush (He appeared to Moses), and he wondered why the fire wasn't consuming the bush. It was after going to check it out that Moses hears God's voice through the burning bush.
Like Moses, many of us may be working our mundane or routine jobs, or we may be content to reside in a quiet retired life of seclusion during our thing as we say. But God is calling us.
He may be trying to get our attention to let us know that despite the things we go through in life; the firey stuff that we think will hurt us the most, He has the power to keep them from consuming us.
Each of us must know that God speaks to each of us regardless of our age but in different ways. He speaks to us through His Holy Word, he speaks to us through other Godly men and women, and through that small whisper from the Holy Spirit within us.
I ask you this question: Are you hearing from God?
Exodus 3:1-5 (HCSB)
1 Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
2 Then the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire within a bush. As Moses looked, he saw that the bush was on fire but was not consumed.
3 So Moses thought: I must go over and look at this remarkable sight. Why isn't the bush burning up?
4 When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from the bush, "Moses, Moses!" "Here I am," he answered.
5 "Do not come closer," He said. "Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground."
God will use whatever means necessary to get our attention. As we said yesterday, our job is to listen and hear Him, and then we will see Him.
Lesson: There will be many burning bush moments in each of our lives to encounter God's presence.
It's when we take a closer look and acknowledge those moments; they can and, most often, will have the capacity to change drastically, impact, and alter the course of our lives for our good.
I'll close with the following quote:
"Earth is crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God:
But only he who sees takes off his shoes."
– Elizabeth Barrett Browning
