Teach Us To Number Our Days

Greetings to all, let us open our mouths THIS DAY to give God all the honor and praise. He provides us with time, strength, and wisdom to enjoy and to overcome days of sorrow and trouble. Amen

As we enter the new month of December today, I'm reminded that living through this pandemic shows us that life is short; it has shown us what it feels like and what it looks like to make our days count rather than count our days.

Not knowing what we were about to enter, I had already committed my early mornings to spend quiet quality time with God.

At the onset of the pandemic, I found myself consumed with watching the calendar and counting down the days and months of the virus's presence. I quickly found myself not focusing on the calendar and often found myself losing track of time.

Despite living in these troubled times, I'm aware of the pain and suffering that t pandemic causes in many lives. My focus has changed from counting days of the pandemic; to me being present and accounted for in the presence of God to gain a better insight into His word.

The word tells us that:

Job 14:1 (NCV)

1 "All of us born to women live only a few days and have lots of trouble.

When we learn to make the days of our lives count and not count our days, we will realize the beauty of life. Making our days count and seeing their beauty can only come when we go to God seeking to gain a heart of wisdom.

Several writers in the bible use the phrase "to number our days." (Moses prayed, Psalm 90:12; James mirrors this sentiment, James 4:14; Paul warns the saints, Ephesians 5:15–16).

We must not confuse the requests to number their days as just that; it was a request for having the wisdom to live their lives wisely, having them count for something Good.

Psalm 90:12 (TLB)

12 Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should.

Psalm 39:4 (NIV)

4 "Show me, O LORD, my life's end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life.

Psalm 89:47-48 (MSG)

47 Remember my sorrow and how short life is. Did you create men and women for nothing but this?

48 We'll see death soon enough. Everyone does. And there's no back door out of hell.

Lesson: No matter who we are, our days are numbered; we must all realize that only what we do for the Lord lasts.

With each passing day, let us move forward, leaving a legacy of love, faith, and commitment for our loved ones and those who look up to us to follow.
