Refusing To Be Silenced

Greetings to all, on this Monday and each day, let us start our day by talking to God. May our faith and belief remain strong enough to allow God to speak through our lips to declare His word! Amen.

Today March 8th, is International Women's Day with this year's theme, "Choose To Challenge." The whole month of March is devoted to acknowledging women and the contributions we make to our families, communities, jobs, and the world.

This year's National theme for March is a continuation of last year's theme, Valiant Women Of The Vote: "Refusing To Be Silenced."

While we know that there are distinct differences between women and men, being a woman is a glorious thing in that we, too, were made us in God's image as well.

Genesis 1:27 (NCV)

27 So God created human beings in his image. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female.

Since the beginning of time, dominant male societies have made being a woman challenging and complicated because of a lack of understanding in the church and community. But, we women also play a role in tearing each other down instead of building each other up.

1 Corinthians 14:34 (TLB)

34 Women should be silent during the church meetings. They are not to take part in the discussion, for they are subordinate to men as the Scriptures also declare.

The purpose of Paul's words was to promote unity, not to teach about women's roles in the church. If we want to make this world a better place, we must all step up, step out, and refuse to be silenced when it comes to speaking the word of God. The Lord has promised to pour out His Spirit on all people.

Joel 2:28-29 (GW)

28 "After this, I will pour my Spirit on everyone. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions.

29 In those days I will pour my Spirit on servants, on both men and women.

2 Corinthians 4:13 (TLB)

13 We boldly say what we believe [trusting God to care for us], just as the psalm writer did when he said, "I believe and therefore I speak."

Lesson: Each year, the two themes do a great job highlighting and observing the ways women throughout history continue to fight to earn the right to speak up, challenge expectations, and how we are pioneers on the front line of change.

For each of us who have or have had women in our lives who uplift and encourage us, let us take time during this Women's History Month to encourage them by letting them know the impact they make in our lives.
