Greetings to all, let us thank God for allowing us to see this blessed Sunday. Let us serve Him with gladness, and may He help each of us not to see our worship and serving as unwanted responsibilities, but as ways to reflect the Lord's image in all that we do. Amen
"Mirror Mirror on the wall, do you see Christ in me at all?"
We know that mirrors don't show an accurate reflection since everything in a mirror is backward. Yet, at least once every day, we look in a mirror to examine our outer selves to see if we're presentable enough to be seen by others.
If there are any flaws, we correct them. The book of James uses the analogy of looking in a mirror to show us the bible is not only to be read or heard but is to be used as a mirror to evaluate our spiritual selves.
James 1:22-24 (NLT2)
22 But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
23 For if you listen to the word and don't obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror.
24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.
What good would a mirror be if we didn't do anything about the flaws we see about ourselves? And for God's sake:
Matthew 7:1-4 (MSG)
1 "Don't pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment.
2 That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging.
3 It's easy to see a smudge on your neighbor's face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own.
4 Do you have the nerve to say, 'Let me wash your face for you,' when your own face is distorted by contempt?
1 Corinthians 13:12 (GW)
12 Now we see a blurred image in a mirror. Then we will see very clearly. Now my knowledge is incomplete. Then I will have complete knowledge as God has complete knowledge of me.
While our knowledge of God in this life is excellent, It is safe to say that our spiritual sight here on earth, as it pertains to our understanding of God and his ways, are dim, simply because God's revelation to us so far has only been in part.
Deuteronomy 29:29 (TLB)
29 "There are secrets the Lord your God has not revealed to us, but these words that he has revealed are for us and our children to obey forever.
1 John 3:2 (GW)
2 Dear friends, now we are God's children. What we will be isn't completely clear yet. We do know that when Christ appears, we will be like him because we will see him as he is.
Lesson: Having the confidence that God fearfully and wonderfully made us (Psalms 139:14), we can take heart that He fully knows us and through our faith spend eternity getting to know Him fully one day.
