Keeping Our Faith During The Silence

Greetings to all, as we enter into this Holy Saturday/Silent Saturday, let us be reminded to allow God to continue to guide our steps. Let us keep the hope and faith as we await the coming resurrection of Jesus. Amen

We have been following the steps of Jesus during this Holy Week, and it started with loud shouts from the crowds on Palm Sunday. We have seen darkness, a torn veil, earth-shaking, graves opening, and now we get to Saturday, the day after Jesus was crucified, He's buried, and there is now complete silence. After all, it's the Sabbath, a day of rest, and the whole earth obeyed.

While the Disciples grieve for their friend and teacher, they doubted and forgot what he told them about His death. After the crucifixion, they were possibly afraid they would be next, or in disbelief and probably humiliated because they believed He was the Messiah, the one who would save them from Roman oppression.

John 16:16-24 (NCV)

16 "After a little while you will not see me, and then after a little while you will see me again. "

17 Some of the followers said to each other, "What does Jesus mean when he says,' After a little while you will not see me, and then after a little while you will see me again'? And what does he mean when he says,' Because I am going to the Father'? "

18 They also asked, "What does he mean by 'a little while'? We don't understand what he is saying. "

19 Jesus saw that the followers wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, "Are you asking each other what I meant when I said,' After a little while you will not see me, and then after a little while you will see me again'?

20 I tell you the truth, you will cry and be sad, but the world will be happy. You will be sad, but your sadness will become joy.

21 When a woman gives birth to a baby, she has pain, because her time has come. But when her baby is born, she forgets the pain, because she is so happy that a child has been born into the world.

22 It is the same with you. Now you are sad, but I will see you again and you will be happy, and no one will take away your joy.

23 In that day you will not ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you anything you ask for in my name.

24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy will be the fullest possible joy.

Lesson: Despite having the darkest day in their life, all hope was not gone for the Disciples. The same goes for us today; just like the whole earth waited on the sabbath in silence, we too should wait on the Lord.

When dark days come in our lives, and we feel that God is silent and is not answering our prayers, we should rejoice because we know that he promises never to leave us.

God's silence doesn't mean that He is not with us but that He is doing something great for us.
