Greetings to all, let us thank God for this Tuesday, which He has made. May we continue to be committed to His will as we go through this week. I pray that He gives us the grace to be committed to Him in prayer, worship, and the study of His word this week. Amen
As we move through this week, let's put forth the effort not to fail, and let's live up to our commitments. We serve a good God, who is totally faithful to do what he has committed to us. He has also called for us to commit ourselves to Him.
Because our lives are full of necessary and required commitments, it's nearly impossible for us not to be committed to something. However, we must get back to our Father's business.
Revelation 3:15-16 (GW)
15 I know what you have done, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were cold or hot.
16 But since you are lukewarm and not hot or cold, I'm going to spit you out of my mouth.
Because our affections reveal our faith, we are tempted to measure, examine, or judge ours and other's Christian walk based on the things we do.
In the following scripture, the Apostle Paul ended his final plea to Corinth's people; he asked them to test themselves to see their faith.
2 Corinthians 13:5-10 (HCSB)
5 Test yourselves ⌊to see⌋ if you are in the faith. Examine yourselves. Or do you yourselves not recognize that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless you fail the test.
6 And I hope you will recognize that we do not fail the test.
7 Now we pray to God that you do nothing wrong—not that we may appear to pass the test, but that you may do what is right, even though we ⌊may appear⌋ to fail.
8 For we are not able to do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.
9 In fact, we rejoice when we are weak, and you are strong. We also pray that you become fully mature.
10 This is why I am writing these things while absent, that when I am there, I will not use severity, in keeping with the authority the Lord gave me for building up and not for tearing down.
Lesson: As Christians, God has called us to holiness and not religion. Like the Corinthians, who we're called to examine and test themselves to see if they were really Christians. The challenge that he laid out for them to do a spiritual self-examination is excellent for each of us today.
