Greetings to all, let us be encouraged to stay the course being faithful to the Lord on this Tuesday. Let us pray for God's divine direction as we face making decisions today and let us not push God aside; He knows every decision and every challenge that we face. Amen
As this week progresses, many of us will find ourselves having to make, if not many, at least one decision.
How many of you would see it as an opportunity of a lifetime, an interruption, or something impossible if asked to be who God wanted you to be? To do what He wanted you to do? Or to go where He wanted you to go?
Unfortunately, many of us would probably not see it as an opportunity of a lifetime because we often have other priorities and things in our lives that we would much rather keep. It's not always because we have riches either. It may be our jobs, families, and relationships that we desire to have.
In our scripture today, we have a young man who asked Jesus what he must do to have eternal life but did not like the answer that Jesus gave; he walked away sad and missed the opportunity of a lifetime. To follow Jesus!
Matthew 19:16-22 (GW)
16 Then a man came to Jesus and said, "Teacher, what good deed should I do to gain eternal life?"
17 Jesus said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you want to enter into life, obey the commandments."
18 "Which commandments?" the man asked. Jesus said, "Never murder. Never commit adultery. Never steal. Never give false testimony.
19 Honor your father and mother. Love your neighbor as you love yourself."
20 The young man replied, "I have obeyed all these commandments. What else do I need to do?"
21 Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, sell what you own. Give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then follow me!"
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad because he owned a lot of property.
In the rich young ruler's case, he had many possessions that made it hard for him to give up and follow Jesus. He said, you know that I've been perfect. What else am I missing? He thought that by following all the rules that he could please God.
Lesson: When it comes to our spiritual walk, there will be risks, but ultimately it will be rewarding. We only need to please one person, the Lord. If we want to please Him, we must have spiritual maturity that gives us the self-sacrificing character to let go of the things of this world that would keep us from following Christ.
Matthew 16:26 (NLT2) 26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
